Advent Concert: “Puer natus”
Although Christmas music as such did not exist in the Middle Ages, many songs can still be found that tell the Christmas story. They describe a flower that sprang from a branch of the stem of Jesse, and "…a child born in Bethlehem". The renowned Leipzig ensemble Nimmersêlich performs Advent concerts that have little in common with the standard Christmas music heard everywhere else. Carefully researched and thoughtfully arranged, melodies from the 11th to the 15th centuries come to life, performed with vocals, lute, flute, hurdy-gurdy, harp, and other historical instruments.
