C the Unseen
An extraordinary year lies behind Chemnitz and the 38 municipalities of the region. Under the motto “C the Unseen”, numerous committed actors created a unique program in 2025 and invited many people from near and far to rediscover Chemnitz and the cultural region. What remains are encounters, projects, new places – and the desire to keep looking. Because even after the Capital of Culture year, there is still much to experience in Chemnitz and the region.

Kunst- und Skulpturenweg
PURPLE PATH
Works by renowned international, national, and Saxon artists are exhibited along the PURPLE PATH Art and Sculpture Trail. An exhibition in public space is created, telling stories of people, craftsmanship, and industry, and inviting visitors to discover these narratives.
“Everything comes from the mountain” is the narrative of the PURPLE PATH. 850 years of mining have deeply shaped the landscapes around Chemnitz – the Ore Mountains, Central Saxony, the Zwickau region. The extraction of silver, tin, cobalt, iron, kaolin, and uranium determined life. The PURPLE PATH connects Chemnitz and the partner municipalities in the surrounding area through sculptures and installations that refer to the shared past.

#3000Garagen
The #3000Garagen project presents the approximately 30,000 garages in Chemnitz, most of which were built collectively and through self-effort during GDR times, as living archives, creative spaces, and places of encounter.
In artistic projects, the individual stories of garage users are conveyed and creatively transformed against the backdrop of Chemnitz’s urban history, while festivals, workshops, and art actions activate the garage courtyards as socio-cultural community spaces.
Makers, Business & Arts
The Makers, Business & Arts project builds bridges between creative makers, art, business, and tourism. The program develops opportunities for cross-sector collaboration, promotes the creation of creative spaces, and is committed to expanding creative tourism. It works on this through three sub-projects: Tourism:creative, Makerhubs, and Economy:creative.
The project is carried out by Kulturhauptstadt Europas Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH in cooperation with the State Association for Culture and Creative Industries Saxony e. V.
