Boring at the theatre?! Absolutely not! At least not when we are out and about with the two schoolgirls Hanna and Greta. During a school trip to the theatre, they slip away from their teacher to explore the mysterious building on their own. And lo and behold: behind one of the theatre's creaking doors—of all things, the one that looks least promising—Hanna and Greta encounter a curious woman: a prompter—or rather, someone who suddenly brings an entire fairy-tale world to life! The two schoolgirls make new, surprising acquaintances—from the soothing Sandman to the terrifying witch, who ... wait a minute. We are right in the middle of the fairy tale of Hansel and Gretel! And even if the witch is a rather spooky creature, we can rest assured. Once the final note fades away, aren't we pretty sure to arrive at the fairy tale's happy ending? This production of Humperdinck's popular children's opera—based on the famous fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm—brings the story up close to the audience. In an intimate version with piano and a focus on the central characters—Hansel, Gretel, Mother, Witch, Sandman, and Dew Fairy—the production takes all children and the young at heart on a safe journey through hidden doors into the magical universe of opera.
