Meerane
Exhibition on the Town's History at the Museum in the Old Town Hall
The Museum in the Old Town Hall (Altes Rathaus) Meerane, Markt 3, is open Thursday to Saturday from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, showcasing history in a historic setting.
On display is the exhibition on the town's history.
Museum director Antje-Gesine Kerl reveals what awaits visitors at the museum.
Following conceptual and design revisions, the town history exhibition presents itself in a fresh look. Historical exhibits, restructured theme areas, and a contemporary presentation make the development of Meerane vivid and accessible. For instance, the silver denarius is on display, a 12th-century coin commemorating King Vladislaus and the first documented mention of the town of Meerane in 1174. Among the outstanding exhibits is also the “Willkomm”, a welcoming jug of the weavers' guild. In addition, many other exhibits relating to weaving, naturopathy, the automotive industry, and the daily life of Meerane's past residents will be featured. The exhibition invites visitors to rediscover familiar aspects and gain a clearer understanding of connections. Upon request, Kerstin Zienert offers guided tours through the town history exhibition rooms dressed in historical costume.
