Museum Café: "From Half-Timbered Houses to the 'Platte'. Living in Glauchau"
This autumn, the museum café is dedicating a richly illustrated lecture to living in Glauchau: For centuries, Glauchau's inner-city architecture was characterized by half-timbered buildings. Driven by economic growth in the 19th century, new residential districts emerged, featuring prestigious townhouses for the industrial bourgeoisie. Dignified country house architecture and housing estates then shaped the first four decades of the 20th century. The increasing decay of historic buildings and the demands for modern living standards during the GDR era led to prefabricated concrete housing estates on the outskirts of town – the so-called "Platte".
The popular museum café takes place on four afternoons in the "Weißes Gewölbe" of Forderglauchau Castle. Registration is required.
Price:
8.00 euros per person incl. a cup of coffee and a piece of cake
The number of participants is limited. Advance registration requested by phone at 03763 777580 or
