In the 16th century, Zwickau was not only economically significant, but also embraced the renewal of church policy openly and tolerantly—Luther himself had visited the city to offer support and preach, and the town council confidently pursued an "open" church policy. In 1520, Thomas Müntzer arrived in Zwickau for the first time to preach, and the following year—prompted, among others, by Mayor Mühlpfort—Nikolaus Hausmann was appointed town pastor at St. Mary's: the Reformation was gaining ground in Zwickau. It is therefore hardly surprising that at Christmas in 1524, church services in Zwickau were celebrated in the form of the German Mass—an event that will be highlighted in the lecture by Prof. Johannes Schilling.

An event organized by the Verein der Freunde der Ratsschulbibliothek e.V. in cooperation with the Ratsschulbibliothek Zwickau
