Lecture with music: The Translation of Schumann's Diaries

Since July 2026, Prof. Dr. Alexis Smith from Hanover College in Indiana (USA) has been working at the Robert Schumann House on the first English publication of the diaries kept by Robert Schumann since his school days in Zwickau. Her lecture provides insights into how the young composer expressed himself in his private records and illustrates the possibilities of translation using specific examples. Thomas Synofzik accompanies the remarks with pieces from Robert Schumann's Papillons and Clara Wieck's Polonaises.
